Well, the winter solstice was Tuesday which is also the shortest day of the year at 9 hours and about 40 minutes and Christmas is Saturday.

And crazy as it is, I still have blooms on the Geraniums, Impatiens, and Petunias.

I did cover them up when it dropped to 18 degrees Saturday night.

Well, why not? It’s going to be in the 70’s on Christmas Day!

Early this week the weather was very nice so I decided to get some outside chores done.

My helper, J.J., pulled all the dead tomatoes and peppers, pruned the seed pods off the Crepe Myrtles, and helped me move pots around.

The Pansies are doing very well so we took the Petunias down from the window box shelf and put the Pansies up.

I snipped off all the dead blooms to keep them lush and blooming.

The Chrysanthemums I bought in the fall had a lot of spent blooms on them but I discovered there were a ton of unopened buds under the spent blooms.

It took a little time, but I got the scissors and carefully trimmed all the dead blooms off and now they are ready for another flush of blooms.

With the continued mild weather it could happen! Check out the before and after pictures below.

From all of us at The Artichoke, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
