Here we are at the last big “hoorah” of the summer season on Grand Lake – Labor Day Weekend!
However, it doesn’t look like the weather is going to cool down anytime soon, so there may be a lot of weekends left to play on the lakes.
On that note…the weather didn’t give our area in Langley very much rain…in fact, it is hardly worth mentioning.
The temps have dropped some but after several weeks of very hot and dry conditions, everything outside is stressed.
I still have tomatoes on the vine but my tomato plants look like $@#*!
If you are debating on ripping out the ugly tomato plants, don’t!
I’m just trying to keep them alive and when it cools down in a couple of weeks, they will start showing new foliage and could produce more in the fall.
The old and established trees are dropping leaves because of the heat, but don’t worry. They are just conserving their water to survive.
We have a few young trees, like 4 years old or less, and they don’t look very happy.
But the limbs are still soft and there are some new leaves trying to come out, so they are not dead.
Monday I put a slow drip hose on all four of my newer trees and it is amazing how much better they already look.
So with all of that said, we still have vegetables at the Saturday Market.
We will also have grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, local honey, homemade tamales, salsa, lots of baked goods, Lebanese cabbage rolls, hummus, and some beautiful sterling silver jewelry pieces created by a local artist.
This is our last weekend so please come and support these hard-working vendors!
We will be there from 9:00 to noon. Enjoy the Earth! Diana
