I don’t want to jinx anything, but we are having the perfect summer.
We are getting another week of low to mid 90’s. Thanks, Mother Nature!!
That is not to say that everything is perfect in the vegetable garden.
Even though we haven’t had extreme heat much this summer, the tomato plants start looking ugly on the bottom half.
They are not finished producing so you need to clean them up.
I know, it is one of the worst chores to do, but it has to be done.
Start by cutting the really bad tomatoes off, ones that are rotting or badly cracked. (That way you don’t get any smelly gook on your arms as you work.)
Then start on the dead and yellowing branches.
The really dead ones can be pulled off, but the thicker ones will need to be snipped off so you don’t tear up the main branch.
Once you get going it gets easier because you see progress. Just do it…when you are finished your tomatoes will be very happy.
Thanks to the weather, we still have plenty of local vegetables at The Saturday Market, along with yummy baked goods, salsas, jellies, tamales, spices, cabbage rolls, etc.
Come and shop 9:00 am to noon. Enjoy the Earth! Diana
